Self-watering containers have a reservoir of water beneath a platform that holds the potting mix. One advantage of this is that the plant takes exactly the amount of water that it needs, so there is no overwatering or underwatering. Another advantage is that there is no water wasted. These containers can be used where there is little space—on a balcony or patio.
